The city of Wunstorf is first mentioned in documents dating back to the year 871 A.D. During the years 1235 to 1320 A.D., Wunstorf was the regional capital of the Count of Wunstorf and Roden. Official city status was given to Wunstorf in the year 1261 A.D. The main symbol is the late romantic church built in the 12th century. Wunstorf has not lost its middle age character and through the many tudor style homes in the city center, which are mainly found on Wasserzucht Street, the long history of Wunstorf is preserved. The weekly shopping market is still held in front of the church, just like in ancient times. In the beautiful walk-only-zone you will find three large fountains as well as many shops and gastronomical businesses.
