Neustadt am Rübenberge and the Neustädter Land offer a very large surface beside natural and scenic varieties. The 33 places and the large surface thereby connected, form Germanys fourth largest city. In the 12th century Neustadt developed to one of the strongest and most important fortresses in north Germany. 1974 were formed from the district town and the 33 independent municipalities the city Neustadt am Rübenberge. The places kept their typically rural character and each place have its own history with good-preserved buildings. The largest object of interest is the Castle Landestrost in Neustadt, in which the moorland peat-museum and a sparkling wine cellar is located as well as cultural meetings take place. On each Friday the ancient weekly market takes place in the city center, as in earlier times.
