Accessibility to the Steinhuder Lake Region

This site gives you useful tips and references to the handling and functionality as well as to the structural construction of the Steinhuder Lake Portal.

Barrier free

The Steinhuder Lake Portal was designed and programmed barrier-free. Barrier-free that is, that for all visitors, including humans with physical or mental disabilities, all information of this portal is freely accessible. For this the recommendations for the accesibility of web contents of the Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) from the W3C form the basis.
First all sites of the portal fulfill the conformance level A of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 1.0. The conformity with the conformance level Triple-A is desired.

Change the font size

You have the possibility to configure the font size individually with your browser settings.
With the Internet Explorer and Firefox click on the menu option - view -, there up - font size - and select then your desired font size.
If you possess a mouse with mouse wheel, keep the STRG key pressed and roll with the wheel up or downward around to adjust the font size. Most modern Browser possesses this function.
You can use also the combinations of keys defined in the browser. These are however not unitary fixed:
for Firefox, Mozilla, Netscape
STRG and + (plus) = make bigger
STRG and - (minus) = make smaller
for Opera
+ (plus) = make bigger
- (minus) = make smaller

Keyboard short instructions

Additionally available keyboard contractions (Accesskeys) are not configured. This has the reason, that the browser with different accesskeys is reserved and by it full functionality of defined combinations of keys cannot be guaranteed.

Tab-index

A modified tab index is not configured. The tab sequence corresponds to the normal document structure. In the layout display the tab index takes place from the head of the site over the left column, then to the right column, then to the middle column and afterwards to the footer of the site.

Alternative navigation

In addition to portal navigation the navigation over the browser specific alternatively navigation is available. This function supports at present only Opera without further installations of extensions. For the Firefox browser an additional plugin is available.
With the navigation elements - previous - and - next - jump to the respectively next or previous site, in the level (category), in which you are. Beginning with the starting site you are in the highest level.
If you are on a site that contains subsites, and you click on an accordingly assigned subsite, the navigation between the sites takes place in according to the level in that the subsite is. Over the navigation element - high - you can return back to higher level.

Advanced navigation

At the end of each site content (before the page footer) is placed the advanced navigation. This navigation puts inside the document content the links, which result from the alternative navigation to navigate between the individual sites. Additionally links to total summaries are placed inside the advanced navigation. In opposition to the alternative navigation, the advanced navigation is available with all browser.

Data tables

All tables of this internet portal are used exclusively for the representation of tabular contents. The assignment of the line and column heads corresponds to the usual standards for barrier-free internet sites.
Since a content management system is used for the administration of the internet portal, it can seem to tables with only one column of content to represent. This characteristic comes from the standardization of the representation of different contents. This problem is to be avoided by contentwise extensions in the future.

Search in the Steinhuder Lake Portal

The Steinhuder Lake Portal offers you searches over the entire supply of the Steinhuder Lake Region. You can search the sites for arbitrary search words. In addition you can use the quick search, which always is available in the portal navigation (in the layout view this is in the left column), or over the advanced search purposefully in a certain range. Additionally in the categories gastronomy, hosts, links and events-calendar special configured search forms are available.

Print documents

All sites of the Steinhuder Lake Portal were optimized for the printout and can problem-free printed out. For printing a site please use the print symbol of your browser or the appropriate menu option.

Action of Cookies

The Steinhuder Lake Portal can be used with, and without the use of cookies. Cookies are used as session-cookies, which stores your current session-id. Further information you can find in the data security report of your browser; at present this function is supported only by the Internet Explorer without additional installations.

Construction and structure of the sites

Each site of the Steinhuder Lake Portal is fundamentally directly structured, individual sections are characterized by the em tag; main sections and links for quick navigation within the document are additionally provided with brackets.
In the following the structural document-construction with the individual sections is detailed described:

description: in this section are links, that allows you to jump to different sections of the document. Also skiplink navigation mentioned, there are the following links: (error) message, portal navigation, portal search, page content, page footer.
The link (error) message is available only, if messages from forms in the document appear. Further references to messages from forms you find in the next chapter of this site.

description: name of the portal with link to the starting site.

description: each site of the Steinhuder Lake Portal is available in German as well as English language. With contained link you can change for the respectively other language of the current site.

[Current Path]
description: here the category path is represented to the current site with the pertinent superordinate sites (categories). This function is called also breadcrumb.

[Portal Navigation]
description: all important portal-links are available in this section on each site.
In the layout view this section is the left column.
The portal navigation is divided into the following sections:

Region
description: categories with subcategories that contentwise correspond to the topic Steinhuder Lake Region. If you click on the link - towns/places -, a further selection of subcategories opens below the link.
Within the title of this section a link is available, a plus or minus sign surrounded with brackets, with which you can open or close the entire category tree of this section.
